description:
Domestic animals kept for use or profit, or rather, intentionally reared in an agricultural setting to produce food or other products are defined as livestock. The impact of climate change is expected to heighten the vulnerability of livestock systems and reinforce existing factors that are affecting livestock production systems. Changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather events and temperature rise could lead to an increased spread of existing vector-born diseases, emergence and circulation of new diseases. Decreasing water supply and intensifying desertification can affect sources of livestock drinking water, livestock feed production systems and pasture yield. Increasing heat-related mortality and morbidity can intensify the decline of livestock production.
